This study aimed to evaluate the variation of crown morphometric indices across different height classes in a Eucalyptus grandis stand located in the municipality of Peçanha, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The research was conducted in an 11.6-hectare stand with a 3×3 m spacing, where an experimental plot of 8,000 m² was installed, representing a 6.90% sampling intensity. A total of 837 trees were measured for diameter at breast height, total height, and crown insertion height using a mechanical caliper and electronic hypsometer. Based on these variables, morphometric indices were calculated: crown proportion, crown shape, slenderness ratio, crown cover index, salience index, and crown area. The trees were classified into three height strata, and the data were fitted to the two-parameter Weibull function, with statistical validation using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The results indicated that trees in the upper stratum showed larger crown dimensions and volume, while those in the lower stratum exhibited higher slenderness ratios and salience indices, reflecting greater competition for light. Crown morphometry proved to be an effective tool for diagnosing tree vitality and competition in forest stands, guiding silvicultural practices such as selective thinning and promoting the optimization of growth and wood production.
