Call for papers for the Special Edition "Journalism in the Age of AI" | 30 years of Journalism at Univap

2026-05-06

Revista Univap announces a call for papers for its Special Commemorative Edition. In 2026, the Journalism course at the Universidade do Vale do Paraíba celebrates three decades of commitment to ethical and critical education. To mark this trajectory, the thematic dossier looks to the future with the theme: "Journalism in the Age of AI: Tradition and Disruption".

The use of generative AI in newsrooms has grown exponentially in recent years, bringing gains in productive efficiency, but also dilemmas about the authenticity of information. Therefore, it is necessary to reflect on the impact of automation on the regional and national informational ecosystem, reaffirming the role of journalism and scientific reflection in a scenario where disinformation and the algorithmization of content challenge traditional journalistic mediation. The aim is to foster critical and scientific reflection on the structural transformations caused by Artificial Intelligence in the field of Social Communication, integrating the historical memory of the 30 years of the Journalism course with perspectives on technological innovation. And to propose reflections on:

- the impact of AI on the productive routine of newsrooms (news automation, data verification and curation).
- debating the ethical and deontological challenges of using algorithms in content production and in the relationship with sources.
- reflecting on the evolution of journalism education in the last three decades, confronting the humanist model with the demands of automated communication.
- To investigate the effects of information overload and algorithmic bias on the public's perception of reality.

This edition also invites researchers and professionals in the fields of Social Communication and related areas to submit original articles for the thematic section "Social Communication - Artificial Intelligence and the Production of Knowledge," with the aim of exploring central issues such as:
- The role of AI in content curation and personalization;
- Impacts of automation on journalism, advertising, and information production;
- Ethical and epistemological challenges in mediating between AI and audiences;
- Effects of information overload on attention, perception, and misinformation in society;
- How AI transforms organizational processes: efficiency, productivity, and innovation.

The Univap Journal will accept articles for the Special Edition until July 28, 2026, with publication expected in October 2026. Articles must have a minimum length of 5,000 words (or 15 pages) and at least one of the authors must hold a master's or doctoral degree.
